All About My Room

Writer's picture: Skyler Skyler

My mom just moved into a new house, and I was in charge of decorating my room. If you know anything about me, you know I absolutely love anything home decor and decorating.

Growing up, I always had a white iron bed. When moving into this new house, I knew I wanted something new and different. I decided to go with a light wood bed so I could keep the room very neutral while having something different than the standard white iron bed I had always had. For my comforter, I chose to do a cream colored comforter from the OpalHouse collection from Target. It has the prettiest design and texture that flows really well with the color of the bed. The throw pillows add the slightest color to the room. Both of the square throw pillows came from the Magnolia Home section of Target and the small lumbar pillow came included with the comforter and shams. I absolutely love the way my bedding turned out and love the minimal look of the pillows.

Above the bed, I hung up two gold, mirrored stars my mom had used in our previous home, I asked her as we were moving if I could use them and she let me. I originally wanted to purchase some art prints for above my bed but decided to go with these stars instead. They help to tie in the other small, gold accents all around the room. Under the bed, there is a neutral rug with pops of copper coloring. This really ties in well with the copper of the pillows.

My night stand came from Homegoods for $70. I wanted to stick with the wood furniture and thought this night stand would be perfect. It is a darker wood color than the bed which I love a lot. I think mixing the wood colors makes my room really come together. The two drawers also hold a lot of things, so the storage couldn't be better.

Hanging over my nightstand, are three prints from Daisy Sue Designs. She is a local artist in Murfreesboro and makes prints of hometowns, college campuses, etc. I chose to hang up one of the high school I graduated from, one of my hometown, and one of UT Knoxville. These are three of the places that mean something to me. To go with these prints, I needed to find a tall, skinny lamp and this one from Target was perfect for the space. I also added little touches by placing wheat stalks and a cow ring holder that was given to me as a gift.

My desk is another favorite part of my room. It is the same wood as my night stand and has a single drawer in the front of it. I wanted to keep this space very minimal so I only added a lamp and my laptop (when I'm here). I also wanted a brown leather chair for my desk chair, so I found a set of 2 chairs on Amazon for $80.

I wanted a small bookcase for my room since I love to read. My mom had a wooden bookcase that she ended up not using so I decided to use it for my room. I filled it with lots of books and other items to make it look put together. On top, I placed my tv and my record player. My tv will not be staying on it once I find a dresser for my room. This is one more place in my room that is really colorful with all of the book spines.

Here are two pictures of my room with no filter that include the rug and other details you may have not been able to see in the previous pictures.

Decorating has always been one of my favorite things to do, and I am so beyond proud of my room. There are a few more touches I want to make to it, but those can come later. If you have any questions about anything, feel free to ask!
